Dear Parents of a Senior,
The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help colleges or universities determine readiness for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. All public universities and colleges in Texas require students to complete the TSI Assessment or meet the TSI exemption criteria listed in the table below.
TSI Exemptions (For students entering a Texas public college)
ACT taken prior to February 2023
Composite: 23
English: 19
Mathematics: 19
Students can receive a partial exemption for Math or Reading/Writing if the composite score is 23 and one of the ACT scores listed is met.
ACT taken after February 2023
English: 40
Mathematics: 22
*No longer a composite score*
SAT taken before March 2016
Combined: 1070 with minimum score of 500 on both sections (verbal critical reading & math)
SAT taken after March 2016
EBRW: 480
Mathematics: 530
Counts for Reading/Writing TSI
Counts for Math TSI
Successful completion of College Prep Math or College Prep English
Passing grade in course
This exemption is valid for 2 years from graduation date and for students attending a partner institution: NCTC or Collin College.
*Students taking the course in LISD will have an opportunity to take a TSI test during the course
The TSI Assessment is being offered to Seniors at their high school campus. If your Senior has not met the exemption criteria and wants to participate in the administration of the TSI, please complete the registration form provided by your campus testing coordinator before November 30th to indicate interest. Your campus testing coordinator will then contact your Senior with information about testing dates and times.
