Dual Credit

  • Dual Credit is offered by LISD to help students prepare for the challenge of college while having the support of the high school environment.  Dual credit classes offer students the chance to take college-level classes, taught on the high school campus by college professors.  When students successfully complete dual credit courses, they earn both high school course credit from LISD and college credit from the partnering college/university.  Dual credit courses are transferable to most public Texas colleges and universities.  Students are responsible for determining if transfer institutions will accept their credits.

LISD partners with Collin College to offer dual credit opportunities to students at Hebron and The Colony High Schools, and with North Central Texas College (NCTC) to serve students at Flower Mound, Lewisville, and Marcus High Schools.

All students that want to participate in Dual Credit classes must meet the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).  This means that students must demonstrate readiness on a college entry exam - TSIA2, SAT or the ACT.  Interested students should check testing requirements prior to registering or before considering any dual credit course.  Campus counselors are great resources for testing information and guidance.

Students may demonstrate readiness for college (CCMR) by earning 3 hours of dual credit in English or Math, OR earning 9 hours of dual credit in any subject other than English or Math, such as courses in the Social Sciences.
