Welcome to the Credit by Examination and Credit by Acceleration testing process.
- Credit by Exam provides a way for students to receive credit for recovery for loss of credit or grade placement.
- Credit by Acceleration provides a way for students to advance in specific core areas or grade level.
Students must be registered in and attending a Lewisville ISD school in order to be eligible to test. We invite you to visit the links below for more specific information on dates, courses, and testing.

Testing Information and Considerations:
- Contact your student's current school counselor for acceleration test information and/or to request CBA testing.
- There are many academic, social, and emotional pieces to consider if acceleration is in the best interest of your child; you should discuss with your child’s teacher and counselor.

- Elementary or middle school students accelerating out of core subject areas in order to take courses at the next level campus (middle or high school) will be required to provide their own transportation to and from the middle/high campus. Enrollment is based on campus openings.
- High School courses only: Passing grades are posted on the transcript but shall not be used in grade point calculation (GPA) or Rank in Class (RIC). Advanced Placement (AP) credit cannot be earned by this testing.
- Reminder: Placement in a new course/grade level will only occur at the start of a school year (or semester for semester courses) regardless of when a CBE for acceleration is taken.

When can a student test for CBA?
- Students in grades 1-12 may take CBE exams for acceleration within the five established windows. Please note that students may only attempt the same test twice.
- Students seeking to accelerate Kindergarten may take CBE exams for acceleration during the summer testing window only.

Can a student take the CBA exam more than once?
- Yes. Students may only attempt acceleration two times for the same course/grade level.

What determines whether a student has prior instruction for a CBA exam?
- *Only the students’ school counselor will make prior instruction determinations.*
- To participate in the Credit by Exam with prior instruction, the student must have been enrolled in a formal course as evidenced by:
- A transcript from an accredited or non-accredited institution or
- Other documentation that establishes evidence of a formal course
- A syllabus listing daily assignments
- An explanation of the time parameters of the course
- Documentation of the student’s performance throughout the course
- Documentation of alignments to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills

Do CBA exam grades get recorded on the transcript?
- IF the student passed the CBE exam for acceleration (80% or higher), the actual grade will be posted to the transcript, however, there is no impact to the student's GPA.
- IF the student failed the CBE exam for acceleration (below 80%), the grade will NOT be added to the transcript.

Do CBA exams get included in the students’ GPA?
- No.

If a student takes the CBA mid-year when can he/she be placed in the next course/grade level?
- Placement in a new course/grade level will only occur at the start of a school year (or semester for semester courses) regardless of when a CBE for acceleration is taken.

When will CBA results be available?
- UTHS says that scoring times may vary and ask for up to 20 business days for scoring on their end.
- LISD then takes the score reports and has to upload them to Skyward Family Access. This can take another 5-10 business days depending on the number of testers.
- CBA score reports will be available in Skyward Family access no later than five-six weeks after testing.
