Lewisville ISD Privacy Policy Information

  • LEWISVILLE ISD WEBSITE PRIVACY POLICY

Lewisville ISD is committed to ensuring the privacy and accuracy of your confidential information. LISD does not actively share personal information gathered from its web servers. However, because LISD is a public institution, some information collected from LISD websites, including the summary server log information, emails sent to websites and information collected from web-based forms, may be subject to the Texas Public Information Act. This means that while LISD does not actively share information, in some cases may be compelled by law to release information gathered from its web servers.

As part of its commitment to maintain the privacy of our website visitors, LISD has developed the following privacy statement. The statement has two purposes:

    1. To educate users about privacy issues.
    2. To inform users about specific privacy policies and guidelines employed by the district.

LISD complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which prohibits the release of education records without parent permission. Although FERPA regulations apply only to LISD students, the district is equally committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors to our website. LISD also complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which protects the data of children under the age of 13.

    DATA SECURITY AND INFORMATION PROTECTION

LISD takes the security of your information seriously and has dedicated resources to the protection of your data. This includes technological controls that meet or exceed industry standards, and a staff that is trained in information confidentiality, integrity and availability of electronic data, resources and communications.

With the passage of Senate Bill 820 from the 86th Texas Legislature, districts are now required to implement certain security measures. Beginning September 1, 2019, districts must:

    • Designate a security coordinator
    • Adopt a cybersecurity policy
    • Report any breach of student personally identifiable data to the Texas Education Agency (TEA)

The Lewisville ISD Superintendent has designated the Chief Technology Officer as the district's cybersecurity coordinator, who will serve as a liaison between the district and TEA in cybersecurity matters. The cybersecurity coordinator is required to:

    • Report any breach of the district’s information systems to the agency.
    • Provide notice to a parent or guardian of a breach that involves a student’s personally identifiable information.
