How do I register for summer VLA classes?
Registration for the summer VLA term will begin after the course selection process for next year has concluded. This is usually sometime after spring break. This process will be similar in that you will be able to log into family access in Skyward and request your summer VLA courses. Nearly all VLA courses are offered during the summer session, except for AP US History.
-
When will registration begin?
Generally, registration opens after Spring Break. Look for the VLA alerts in your student's LISD Gmail account and the Skyward Messenger system.
-
How much are summer VLA course fees?
For course fee information, please review our fees page.
-
Are students required to be present in-person at any time?
Daily in-person attendance is not required. However, students may be required to come in-person for the midterm and final exams. The teacher will provide the dates for the exams.
-
Are VLA classes self-paced?
No, all courses have deadlines for assignments, projects, and tests/quizzes. While these are not self-paced classes, students do have a lot of flexibility in time of day and days of the week they must work on their courses. Students may work ahead of the pacing guide, but extensions are not available past the last day of summer school. These courses count toward GPA calculations according to school and district policy.
-
Who teaches VLA courses during the summer?
Lewisville ISD instructors teach all courses authored and provided by the Virtual Learning Academy. Lewisville online teachers are highly qualified and certified by TEA in the subjects they are teaching. In addition to holding subject-area certifications, Lewisville online teachers have earned their online teacher certification through an approved TXVSN professional learning provider and remain current through continued professional development.
-
How many courses can I take during the summer term?
Generally, we recommend a limit of 2 courses in the summer session. Due to the compression of instructional time, the student will be expected to work approximately 2-3 hours a day per course. There are no extensions available to finish work after the last day of classes in July.
